New handle validation:

Validation code   NOT your password
Your validation code was sent to you using the eMail address you entered when registering your chat handle. Please check your eMail for the validation code. It will be a string of 8 letters and numbers.

If you entered your eMail address incorrectly, or used a web-based account (such as hotmail or Yahoo! mail) which has been deactivated or is over your limit for message space, then you won't receive your validation code. Please check your spam or junk folder just in case the validation email ended up in there. If you don't receive your validation code then You will have to register a different handle, or wait 5 days for this unregistered handle to expire before you can try registering it again.
